Established around 1960, our group exists to promote the hobby of Railway Modelling in and around Perthshire, Scotland. We currently meet most Monday mornings and every Thursday evening at our old workshop at Perth Airport, Scone, near Perth. However we are developing a new club house at the Wester Pickston Railway as part of the Scottish Model Engineering Trust. The move will enable us to become part of a centre of modelling excellence in Scotland.
We always welcome new members to come along for a look around before joining. Our workshop is also open to members at any time. Members are available on the Public Running Days at Wester Pickston. Come along and check the progress of our build and find out more about our new exciting developments.
We have 8 exhibition standard layouts at the moment, described on this site and within the group, several members are working on projects which will add to the number of layouts we have available. On the stocks at the moment are American outline N gauge and O gauge layouts. Details of these will appear in due course. Currently in planning is a new British outline OO gauge layout.
We are also very much into “new technology” applied to model railways and have applied digital command control to a number of our layouts.
Additionally, maintenance work on the existing layouts keep us busy throughout the year. We have some photos and video of our layouts on this site – have a look at our layout pages!
We run one of the most eagerly anticipated and reputable model railway exhibitions in Scotland “A Celebration of Model Railways” always held in Dewars Ice Rink in Perth over the last weekend in June. This exhibition is the biggest club-run exhibition in Scotland. A selection of high quality layouts from throughout the UK, some appearing in Scotland for the first time and a wide selection of specialised trade stands awaits our visitors. See more details elsewhere on this site.
Our next exhibition is on Saturday June 29th & Sunday June 30th, 2019.
We also attend around 12 exhibitions every year throughout the UK. Our diary can be viewed on our Perth Model Railway Group front page.
