Easter Open Day 2024 - thank you

Easter Sunday is the first open day of the year for SMET, and although it was relatively early in the year, we had excellent weather on the day for a fantastic and busy day at Wester Pickston.

Quote of the day:

Amazing 👏 was here today with 3 kids, train rides were fantastic! Staff Amazing 👏 thank you so much ❤️

We had 1171 ticketed rides, with five steam engines, one diesel electric and a single petrol shunter to take passengers around the main line tracks. In 63A the award winning Nanjai Eki N gauge Japan based model was on display, along with Laurencekirk and other models.

The day was hampered somewhat by the weather from the week before the event, which resulted in the field we are kindly allowed to use for parking being unavailable (too muddy!), and parking space quickly became a problem. The parking team did an amazing job with the limited resources they had, and how to address this is something that we continue to discuss.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the open day! SMET is a chairty run by volunteers, and caters for many different disiplines of model engineering, we are delighted to share what we do with you.

Our next open day is 26th May (Late Spring Bank Holiday), and hope to see you then.
