The Scottish Model Engineering Trust are pleased to present their 33rd award-winning annual model railway exhibition at the Dewars Centre, Glover Street, Perth over the weekend of 27th & 28th June. Packed into the hall will be 32 model railways sourced from all over the UK along with a representation from specialist railway societies, modelling demonstrations and support from some of the best trade the hobby has to offer. The exhibition has built a reputation over 33 years for producing a quality event and once again will put on a show to attract and inspire visitors.
Highlights of the model railways at the exhibition will include Perth Model Railway Group’s “Newton Ferrier” in OO gauge which will be exhibited for the first time showing how the railways would have looked in the pre-war years with an impressive selection of trains of the LNER and LMS companies displayed. Other layouts with a Scottish theme include “Faskally Junction” by East Kilbride Model Railway Club which portrays a fictional location just north of Pitlochry. “Roshven” by John Noorani and Joe Marsella portrays a West Highland theme and “Aberdeen Kirkhill” by Glenn Daniel is an impressive model based on the train servicing facilities in Aberdeen as they are today.
For those who remember Crieff Station and the Strathearn line before it was closed, local modeller Roger Cartwright will display his model “Strathearn Parkway” which is a “what might have been” layout had the line not closed.
The impressive O gauge model of “Glasgow Queen Street” will be on display. At over 60 feet long it makes a for a significant attraction at the show and is a great representation of the station at a time when diesel locomotives prevailed over the modern units we see today.
There are many other layouts to see in different scales and gauges representing railways in the UK and abroad. Model railway clubs locally are always well represented with our guests from Dundee, Cupar, Stirling, Glenrothes, Bonnybridge and Falkirk attending.
The exhibition is open to the public on Saturday 27th June from 10.00 am – 5.00 pm and on Sunday 28th June from 10.00 am – 4.30 pm. Tickets are available at the door or can be bought in advance via Perthshire Box Office via our website.
